We go to Disney World more than the average family. I get asked all the time to help plan vacations, our tips and tricks, restaurant recommendations, etc. But the question I get asked the most is- how do you afford to go so often? We have tried many different thing, and I have come up with a few tried and true ways of saving pennies but without missing out on any fun. And Now I am sharing them with you! Feel free to ask me any questions about our Disney travel- it is one of my favorite things to talk about!
1. Share meals: We always do one buffet, and pay for each person individually. We do thins because many character meals are buffets, and those give Dex time with the characters. Disney has huge meals at the table service restaurants. We often times will order an appetizer and one meal and split it between the 3 of us. There are also big meals at at least one counter service restaurant in each park. Our favorite at Magic Kingdom is Cosmic Rays- they have a 1/2 chicken and ribs meal that comes with mashed potatoes and green beans. It's plenty of food for us, and then we even have room for a churro for dessert. Disney desserts are the best- and calories don't count at the happiest place on Earth. We also always drink water- first for the hydration factor in the heat, and second, it is much cheaper. We add lemons and a little sugar for Dex if he wants lemonade.
2. We don't buy souvenirs in the park. Our boys get a pair of Mouse Ears with their name on it for their first trip, but other than that- we try not to buy things in the park. I make a bag of Mickey treats for Dex. I try to get him a little something for each day that we are gone. I take in to account what we will be doing each day, and try to get him something that goes with the day. I've added Dex's Mickey treats for this trip so you can get the idea.
3. Autograph Book and Photos: I bought the Encyclopedia of Disney Characters for Dex for our last trip. This gives him something to look at while we wait in lines, etc., but it also makes a great autograph book. We also don't buy photopass photos. We have them taken, but we always ask the photopass cast member to take photos with our phones too. They have always been happy to do both. We also take SO many photos while we are there. I like to make books on Shutterfly when we get home so that we can always relive our Disney memories.
Those are just a few ways we save money, while still visiting Disney as often as possible. Please feel free to ask if you have any specific questions. I am working on more posts about our travels for the future.
This is our first time taking 2 kiddos to Disney World, so I am sure I will have more tips and tricks and fails to share soon!
As Mickey would say, "See ya real soon!"
